i object
According to many of our baby books, one developmental milestone is when children can "object" when a toy is taken away. Nate has definitely reached, and exceeded, this milestone. He objects not only if you take away toys, but also when you remove very exciting things from the floor, like the dogs' water bowl. He objects if you turn him around mid-crawl so he can't playfully attack the fan. He objects when you give him puffs instead of Cheerios, or Cheerios instead of Mum-Mums, or whatever it is he's in the mood for that afternoon. He objects when his ridiculously large head bumps into things because he doesn't realize how big it actually is. One of my old grad school professors, who I recently met for lunch, says Nate's ability to object will haunt me for the rest of my life. But I can take comfort knowing that my ability to object right back will be a thorn in his side as well.

So... I take it you're both a proud mama that Nate's making inroads into development and you're also frustrated that he's now on the road to learning how to talk back. Err... congratulations and my condolences, Neva.
