our newest friend
Yesterday we met our newest friend, Will, our friends Mark and Amy's son (and Loula's little brother). It's been a busy baby month here in Boston, as we also have a new cousin, Annika. But she's about twice Will's age - quite an old lady! This second photo is a horrible one of both Nate and I, but it's all I've got. Clearly, at this stage, Nate is more interested in his raisins than Will.

much better
We're all feeling much better and for the first time in over a week, Nate seems himself again. This morning he was laughing and playful. Hooray! Other than that, I don't have much to report because we haven't done much of anything for a while. But never fear, the next adventure will be right around the corner...

mister noodle
In a pathetic attempt to get some rest for both me and Nate, I broke one of my parenting rules and plopped down in front of the television. And thanks to Comcast On Demand, we could watch endless episodes of Sesame Street at the touch of a button. It's been 20-some years since my Sesame Street days, and I was reintroduced to old friends - like Snuffy, Gordon, and Maria - and seeing lots of new faces. Most were the typical Sesame Street fare - friendly humans with overly acted emotions, goofy muppets with crazy eyes and fur, you know. But what's the deal with Mr. Noodle? Many of you are probably quite aware of Mr. Noodle, but for those of you new to modern day Sesame Street, he's a slapstick-style mime who hangs out behind Elmo's shade and attempts to act out something related to the show's theme but is usually off target. For instance, when Elmo asks what animals live on a farm, Mr. Noodle acts out an elephant and a monkey before finally correctly choosing to be a chicken. Am I just too old for Mr. Noodle? He just seems weird to me, and unlike the other humans on The Street. And if Mr. Noodle were behind my shade, I don't think I'd be too pleased!

back in time
We're all feeling much better, but still not back to usual yet. Nate was tremendously cranky most of the day, but definitely has more energy than over the weekend. I'll take that as a positive sign. And he didn't puke - now that's a great day!
Since this past weekend was such a bust, I'm posting photos from the couple of weekends before.

quarantine

We're all sick and dropping like flies. By all I mean Nate, Thad, Jeannie, Pop-Pop, and me. We're holding out hope that my mother (aka Grandma) will escape. It's really a pretty gross place to be at the moment, so we've put ourselves into a self-imposed quarantine. I won't go into too many details, but this GI bug really came on quickly. After Nate on Wed night, I was the first to, shall we say, loose my cookies, and was located downtown amongst multitudes of tourists visiting for the marathon. Thad, the lucky one, was at home when it hit him. And poor Jeannie was out working. My dad's actually out of town, so we don't know his whole experience yet, but I'm sure when he's back we will all share battle stories.
Nate's actually doing a lot better and is eating more. He even had some cottage cheese - his first dairy product since the initial Exorcist-like experience the other night. So things are looking up!

vomit galore
Nate had a great day yesterday - we played outside, had a picnic lunch in the yard with Becca, had a great nap, played with Pop-Pop... until around 6pm when he started to projectile vomit all over the place. He puked in our bedroom, in the kitchen, in his bedroom, on Thad, on me... you get the drift. It seems that he caught this intestinal bug that's been going around our area. This morning he has (so far) kept down a handful of Cheerios, some graham cracker, and a ton of Pedialite, so that's promising. And he's currently napping on me, so that too is a good sign. Poor little guy.

a fun weekend
Is it bad if I'm so late in posting that I backdate my postings? ;)
We had a nice weekend visiting with Anna and Jarrod, and Laura and Steve, who were visiting from Rochester. Laura remarked that Nate is a little bigger, runs around more, and has more hair than he did in Rochester. So for those of you who haven't seen him in a while, there's a good on-the-scene report! Nate had a great time at Anna and Jarrod's house eating a delicious brunch of waffles and grapes. Yum!
We have some photos of the weekend on our camera but Nate's sleeping on me at the moment so I'd rather not disturb him. I'll post them a little later.

the office
I can't express how happy and relieved I am that The Office is back after a long break due to the writers' strike. Coincidentally, today was Pop-Pop's last day at work and he is now officially retired. When he was released from the Navy he stopped shaving and grew out his hair; we're trying to convince him to do the same thing now, but he's worried that this time, instead of looking like a hippie, he'll look like a crazy person. And speaking of crazy people, Nate really likes wearing many hats. Literally...

an injury-free day
Today was good because it was boring. Nate is totally fine and has only a teeny bruise to show for his staircapades. Whew!
One of Nate's very favorite places to hang out is in Trevi's (who, for those of you who haven't met her, is only around 15 pounds) dog bed. Halie (who, for those of you who haven't met her, is closer to 60 pounds) also likes the dog bed, so it's really quite the hot spot. Here are a couple recent dog bed highlights...

another day, another doctor visit
I had planned on sharing some photos from our visit yesterday to the farm (or the urban version of the farm) but got sidetracked by yet another doctor visit. I must preface this story by saying that he is totally fine. Seriously. It all sounds much worse than it was. So... this afternoon Nate fell down the basement steps. He got a little scratch on his forehead, but is otherwise unscathed. We're not sure exactly what happened, but it seems that he may have slid down mostly on his butt and lightly conked his head at the end of his fall. He didn't really even cry - it was more of a surprised sound - and within about 30 seconds he was distracted by a toy car that was way up on a shelf nearby. Aunt Jeannie and I seemed far more upset by the whole incident and, just to be safe, we did go to the doctor who confirmed that Nate was totally fine. Nate was infinitely more upset by our interaction with the doctor, who had the gaul to look in his ears, than he was thumping down the stairs. Ugh. This part of parenthood is exhausting!

adrenaline rush
Nate is turning into a pint sized adrenaline junkie. He's still climbing on things and, since he can't actually jump yet, inching himself forward until he falls off the edge. Tonight he upped the game by doing this on a (child-sized) rocking chair. Don't be surprised if the next time I see you my hair is entirely grey.

We saw our soon-to-be-not-pregnant friend Amy tonight and Nate pointed at her belly and said "ball."

it's ours, all ours
I know, I know, I've been a pretty lousy blogger this past week. But I have a good excuse! We've been consumed with house stuff, and after a parade of inspectors (four!) and a flurry of paperwork we signed our livelihood away earlier this evening. We still have a handful of hoops left to jump through, but this was the big one. If all goes according to plan, we should be official owners on June 26. Yay!
It's been a cold April so far, but we've been trying to get out since it's at least slightly warmer. Nate's excited for the beginning of baseball season (3-1 start for the Sox - not too shabby!) and is practicing his overhand. He's surprisingly good, although his aim could use some work.
