kids galore!

On Friday we got together with some of our Bates friends and their kids for a barbecue. There were little boys everywhere, and I think they are proportionally crazy. Two kids is twice as nutty as one, three kids is eight times as energetic, and four is just ludicrous. Nate was the youngest of the kids who could walk, but he kept up with them all and was the instigator on a number of occasions (he's taken to tackling other kids, regardless of size). He had an awesome evening and he came home very tired and very dirty.

Coincidentally, a number of Thad's Carlson cousins (six out of ten, to be precise) and their families all converged upon Boston for the weekend, so we got together for a barbecue yesterday. It was a lot of fun, with kids all over the place. If my calculations are correct, there were eleven adults and eight kids, all under the age of five. We had our first nice day in a long time ("nice" meaning no rain!) so the kids were able to get out and play, which was great. Our four (or five?) year old cousin Anna went on a duck tour on Friday and piloted the ship for a bit. Nate hung out with her a bunch, and now refers to her as, "that lady who drove the duck tour." Apparently Anna called Nate her "boyfriend," so it seems they both had an impact on each other!

I'm glad Anna made such an impression! And yes, four, for just a couple more months...
